"We wanted a sport
we could play together. "

Who are Marcus and Fiona?

Marcus is in his thirties and works in IT. He lives with his partner Fiona, who’s a similar age in a semi-detached house they own in a desirable suburb. Fiona is working her way up the career ladder and is interested in buying a larger house, but at the moment she prefers having more disposable income to enjoy designer clothes, meals out and holidays with Marcus. At the moment it’s just the two of them, but they have plans to start a family in the not-too-distant future.

After a long train commute home, it’s Fiona who does most of the cooking, usually preparing a quick, healthy meal for her and Marcus before they head out to the gym. If she’s not worked too late at the office she might catch a class, otherwise opting for a long workout on the machines. Fiona likes to keep in shape; she is very image conscious and her healthy diet and exercise regime is important to her.

Marcus loves sport, both playing and watching. Since his job has got busier he doesn’t do as much as he used to, but he still tries to get to the gym with Fiona as often as possible. Marcus is the first to admit that his healthy diet is due to Fiona cooking most nights, but he’s not particularly health conscious himself, enjoying a burger and maybe a pint after playing sport, and also being a light drinker at home.

How did they hear about Ball Again?

Fiona receives a complimentary staff magazine every month produced by her the advertising firm by whom she is employed. A couple of months ago she spotted an advert in amongst the leisure and recreation section advertising that this thing called ‘Ball Again’ would be starting soon at the same place frequented by her and Tim for the gym.

Why Ball Again?

Although they went to the gym, often at the same time, the music was so loud and they both wanted to do different things and it was all becoming very repetitive. She had played a bit of netball in the past and seemed to remember that Marcus had mentioned something about intra-mural basketball at university. Fiona had done a bit of research about the fitness benefits of playing basketball and it seemed like it would be much more fun than a fitness class. Accordingly, after a chat with Marcus, they both thought ‘why not!’ and have been going ever since.

What have they particularly enjoyed about Ball Again?

Marcus has been particularly pleased with the value for money of Ball Again, something Fiona appreciates but does not attach quite so much importance to as Marcus! When Fiona first suggested it he thought it would be another expensive membership scheme but the pay and play approach, meaning they could go as and when they could, has worked out very well. Indeed Marcus has been so impressed by the sessions he has decided to take a Level One Coaching Course himself. Fiona loves the fact that they are able to spend time together in this way and trying a new way of keeping fit. They have become friends with another couple who joined a few weeks back and have been out to a couple of restaurants together.
